flumpie: (Pooh and Friends - Birthday)
Emmy had her birthday party today - two days after she turned 12. She had lots of friends over for a murder-mystery party: Lethal Luau. Which of course meant everyone had to dress up.

So here you are - looking very much like your father. Or how I imagine your father would look if he ever wore a bikini top and grass skirt:

Here you are, fascinated by a balloon:

And here you are, proud to be with the big girls!

Here are some pictures of you!

You're crying because you don't like hats - but Miss Ashley made you this very special hat. It's pink and has green frogs on it:

Halloween, 2006 - You're a little flower!

For several months now, you have been able to open the bottom drawer in the kitchen. And yes, the tea towels and pot holders can be fun. But lately, their charms have worn thin. And then, today, you realized you could open the drawer above that.

And there it was, in all its poundy glory: the meat mallet. You have been carrying it about for hours - waving it gleefully overhead and terrifying the cats. Good thing it's a Rubbermaid and not the even more terrifying metal kind.

I took you for a walk yesterday. You had a good time. You actually kept your hat on. And you stayed awake. You were a little concerned when some of the very big loud dogs came barking up toward us, but you were very brave and didn't cry. Your little cheeks were cold by the time we came home, though, so we probably won't be able to take too many more walks outside again for a long time!

Here you are, a wee bit upset. The reason you are upset is because Daisy didn't want to wear your pink socks and was getting a little angry with you. So Emily pulled you away. And then you got mad.

But then you quickly forgot about being mad and went back to being happy.

Speaking of walking, you are totally walking now. You tend to look up. You also tend to strew your toys all over the floor. This means you trip a lot over your toys. But you easily can walk 20-30 feet if there's nothing in your path. I can't wait for Daddy to see you!
flumpie: (Eeyore - Loves Tail)
Yesterday, October 5, you took a few steps toward me - but I wasn't positive you were really walking since it was a bit uncontrolled.

Last night, at our FRG meeting, you walked over to Brooks. Brooks just turned 1 and isn't walking yet so his mom was so surprised that you were walking! But Brooks knows that ducks say "Quack" and you're not too sure of that one yet, so kids all develop at their own rate.

And then this morning you walked to Nana!

Also, at last night's meeting, there was a slideshow of the 172nd. There was a great picture of your father and I said, "Look, Charlie, there's Daddy!" and you said, clear as day, "DADA!!!"

Ok, ok, so you look just like your father.

But you're obviously my daughter too - check out what you're hanging onto for dear life!

That's right, your daddy's credit card!

And also, look how you manage to crawl and cruise your way out of your pants! You look like a very tiny (pink!) plumber!

My head!

Look at your poor wee forehead!!!

Learning to walk is hard work! But you love your new shoes!

You love to help Emmy practice her clarinet!

Today is your 9-month birthday! Emmy and I took pictures of you. You are wearing an outfit we were planning to have you wear to meet your daddy when he came home from Iraq. But he's late coming home and the weather is changing and we're not sure how much longer you'll be able to still wear it. So here you are:

New Tooth!

You got very cranky today so I put you down for an extra nap. You woke up cranky. Nursing didn't help. Eating chicken and rice didn't help. Even raspberry sorbet didn't help. Certainly putting you down on the floor didn't help - then you just screamed.

This wasn't at all like you. Usually you're very cheerful and, even if you're having a bad day, you're still pretty easily distracted.

And then we realized you're cutting another tooth - your 5th! I hope it comes in soon - for all our sakes!

Oh - and here's a semi-recent picture which didn't make it into your journal, for some reason!

You and your sister resting:

Do you like it?!?!

Let's see, you've been going to the gym with me and going to childcare there. You're not usually very happy when I drop you off, but you're very happy when I pick you up!

Today we took the stroller to the Post Office to mail a package to your daddy. Then we strollered to school to pick up Emmy. We were a little early so I spread a blanket on the ground and thought we'd play on the blanket.

Instead, I spent most of the time telling you "No Eat!!!!" because you were fascinated by the grass.

You're crawling everywhere, but also standing up unassisted. You've taken a few steps, but not quite what I would term walking.

And you are completely fascinated by Emmy's new bass clarinet:

Today you had a chance to play with Daisy! Go here, and then quickly hit the next picture button; you'll see close to a movie of you and Daisy. You both were having so much fun!

You LOVE this!

Just Hanging Around! Just Hanging Around!

Look what someone sent you today!

Charlie and her Cammo Duck Charlie and her Cammo Duck

And it was anonymous! I have no idea from whom it came. It did have a Seattle postmark, but it wasn't anyone's handwriting I recognized. So it's a mystery! But you love it. You used it to whack Emmy on the head with.

You're in a room of your own now! How cool is that?!?

Charlie's Room:

Also, you have a new tooth - top middle. We've been busy the last few days getting your new room ready!

Brooks came over today. He's 10+ months old and crawling.

You studied him very intently and this evening finally put it all together. You are officially mobile now. And most proud of yourself!

flumpie: (Pooh - Smiling)
Every mom needs to have a few pictures like this to use to embarrass their kids later on in life...

flumpie: (Pooh - Bedtime)
We have a favorite pair of jammies. They are blue - with Happy Hippos on them. We know the hippos are happy because the top says so.

I just went past your crib and saw this:

Could you be any cuter? How can you have your bottom so high in the air without falling over? And why do you insist on twisting around until you are sideways in your crib?

It's so hard to see you looking so adorable and not reach in and snatch you up and hug you!
flumpie: (Piglet - With Butterfly)
Tonight Emily and I watched you in amazement.

You spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to move your body across the floor about four feet. You were determined to reach the phone which I'd set on the floor.

I didn't actually know babies that aren't quite 8 months old could focus like that. And your task was made even more difficult by the fact that your sleeper has little sheep faces on the feet - complete with floppy ears. Every time you tried to stand or crawl, you were pinned down by one of the ears being under your other foot!

With a combination of trying to crawl, not moving, flinging your hips to the side so you could sit a little closer than you were before, pulling yourself to a stand and then hurling yourself toward the phone, you finally made it.

And then you sat there, clutching the phone, telling us all about your journey. You were so proud. And then so tired:
